Saskatchewan Aquatic Macroinvertebrates Database

Database searches can be performed by either clicking on the Taxonomic List in the left column and browsing through the classification choices or by entering a taxonomic name (order, family, genus or species) in the search field below and browsing the search results.
Icons Legend
--Clicking on this icon at the genus or species level will open a GoogleMap showing genus or species distributions, biological zones and drainage basins.
--Dipnet indicates collection locations. Clicking on the dipnet will open a balloon with the collection location, lat/long and reference for that record.
-- Indicates the reference does not provide a specific collection locality.
-- Indicates the genus or species may occur in SK because adjacent provinces or states report it but it has not yet been recorded in SK.
Since aquatic insect sampling often only collects immature stages and generic identifications are all that is possible both generic and species level distribution maps are available. An asterix * behind the genus or species name indicates additional information and/or images are available in the database.

Collection records for the database are obtained from the published literature, unpublished theses and reports, specimen labels and from ongoing research. (People wishing to contribute records to the database should contact me). There are currently over 10,000 collection records in the database. Every attempt has been made to assure the accuracy of the collection locations but for some records the information was not easily interpreted. If the records are from scanned map points (SMP) the longitude and latitude can only be estimated. Please note at present scanned map points have some error due to map projections.
