Family: Nepidae

Water scorpions are unique in their general appearance. They are one of our largest aquatic insects found in SK with the adults reaching over 4 cm long. Only one species Ranatra fusca has been recorded from SK. It is usually found crawling among submerged vegetation in ponds and lakes or the slower reaches of streams. All stages are predatory feeding on other aquatic insects and even tadpoles and minnows.
