Species: Aedes campestris


DIAGNOSIS: Tarsal segments with apical and basal white scaled bands. Postprocoxal membrane with white scales. Wing veins covered by black and white scales. Claw strongly curved with long subbasal tooth. Abdomen covered almost entirely with white scales or may have paired dark areas on segments. Can only be positively separated from some dorsalis specimens by the shape of the claw. BIOLOGY: Overwinters as eggs. One generation in the northern parts of its range. In southern SK a number of generations can occur. Common in late May and early June in typical years. Larvae found in alkaline sloughs, temporary and semipermanent ponds, roadside ditches and rain pools.
