Species: Aedes dorsalis
DIAGNOSIS: Tarsal sements with basal and apical bands of white scales. Procoxal membrane with white scales. Tarsal claws evenly curved with a short subbasal tooth. Wing veins with dark and light scales intermixed. Scales on R4+5 mostly dark. Abdominal scale pattern can be variable from overall white to white with pairs of dark scaled spots on each segment. See campestris.
BIOLOGY: Overwinters as eggs which can withstand dessication for many years. Larvae are found in ditches and shallow ponds in the prairies. Under favourable conditions can have two generations per year. Adults are usually found in late July and August.
