Species: Aedes vexans
DIAGNOSIS: Tarsomeres with thin basal pale scaled bands. BIOLOGY: Grass filled depressions, ditches and pools are the usual breeding grounds. Eggs are the overwintering stage. It is common in prairies and parkland and can also occur in the boreal forest. It is one of the most important pest mosquitoes in the province. Females are known to fly long distances from their larval habitat. It can have a number of generations per year.
