Species: Coquillettidia perturbans
DIAGNOSIS: Cerci short, not obvious. Abdomen ending bluntly. Postspiracular setae present. Spiracular area lacking setae. Metatibia and first tarsal segment with a medial band of pale scales. Metatarsal segments II to V with a relatively distinct basal band of pale scales. BIOLOGY: Larvae are different from other mosquitoes in they live in the bottom sediments of permanent ponds. The larvae obtain oxygen from air tubes within roots of plants. They likely feed on detritus. Univoltine. Uncommon in SK. Females will feed on both birds and mammals.
