Species: Pycnopsyche guttifer (Walker) 1852

Tubular larval case made of bark, sand grains and twigs. Smith (1984) collected larvae from cool to warm mid sized streams. There was no preference for turbid or clear streams. Smith (1984) noted the larvae were often found in backwaters on logs or submerged branches. It appears there is a short larval "diapause" prior to pupation. The species has one generation per year with the larvae as the overwintering stage and adults flying from mid August to the first part of September (Smith 1984).
